Password cracking

Password cracking refererer til forskellige foranstaltninger, der bruges til at opdage computeradgangskoder. Dette opnås normalt ved at gendanne adgangskoder fra data, der er gemt i eller transporteret fra et computersystem. Password cracking sker normalt via en computeralgoritme, hvor computeren forsøger adskillige kombinationer, indtil adgangskoden er opdaget.

Password cracking gøres af flere grunde, men den mest ondsindede grund er at få uautoriseret adgang til en computer uden computerens ejerens opmærksomhed. Dette resulterer i cyberkriminalitet, såsom at få adgang til andre computere i netværket eller at stjæle adgangskoder med det formål at få adgang til bankoplysninger data eller andre informationer på computeren.

Andre ikke skadelige årsager til password cracking kan være når en person har glemt sit password. En anden grund password cracking er hvis en systemadministrator gennemfører test på passwordestyrke som en form for sikkerhed, så hackere ikke nemt kan få adgang til beskyttede systemer.
